Exploring Curriculum Renewal in an Era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR): A Case of Teaching and Learning in Rwanda
Abstract
This paper reflects on curriculum renewal in Rwanda’s basic education sector in an era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) focusing on teaching and learning. The sole aim of the paper is to have an appreciation of how curriculum renewal is being steered in the basic education sector of Rwanda in the 4IR. The objective of this paper is to explore the successes and challenges arising from the implementation of curriculum renewal in the basic education sector of Rwanda during the 4IR period while zooming in on teaching and learning. The paper deploys qualitative secondary research as its methodological aspect, and it appeals to social meliorism as its theoretical framework. The gap that this paper intends to bridge is that most research on curriculum renewal in Rwanda focused on provinces, ignoring the national thrust of the same, especially in the era of the 4IR. The findings emerging from this paper reveal that although curriculum renewal is progressing well in Rwanda’s basic education sector, the major impediments are the absence of modern information, communication, and technology (ICT) tools and gadgets as well as trained personnel, among a host of other issues. © 2023 Adonis and Abbey Publishers Ltd.
